Mr Earthy is a fictional character based on Terre d’Hermes by Hermes. A woody spicy fragrance from 2006 with a potent orange-pepper combo. An artsy, abstract fragrance that evokes woodwork, stone and dried orange peel.
The year is 2006. Location: an art workshop in Sussex. Mr Earthy, an art teacher in his 30s, is prepping for the day and awaiting the arrival of his students. Mr Earthy is 35, down to earth and specialises in woodwork: a craft which he’s honed over many years and continues to finesse.
Mr Earthy starts everyday the same way: with fresh toast and tangerines, which he eats in his workshop. He particularly likes tangerines and will often eat them as he works. A heap of orange peel gathering by his wood shavings.
Mr Earthy will often work with solvents in his lessons, which give his workshop the most intoxicating smell. A metallic, gunpowdery aroma like sawdust and black pepper ground up a mortar.
Outside of his work, Mr Earthy enjoys earthly pursuits like walking, climbing and gardening. His regular walks take him through a scented field of vetiver and past cedar trees - their camphorous smell a fragrant reminder of his workshop and the work he does for a living.
Mr Earthy is an arty man but also a practical man. A complex man but also an everyday man. It’s no wonder his students respect him so much.
