Meet Mr Staid

Updated: Jan 8, 2022

Mr Staid is a personification of Tabac Original: a bright and soapy aromatic fougere from 1959 that oozes old school sophistication. Ideal for those days when you just want to feel calm and grounded.

Once upon a time in a small German industrial town called Stolberg there lived a man named Michael (Mr Staid to you and I). A practical and easy going man with an appreciation for the simple things in life.

Now in his early 60s and newly retired, Michael is a man of routine and creature of habit, who rises early, eats at regular intervals, and takes pride in his appearance. A former factory worker, Michael shaves daily using a cutthroat razor and simple soap, which, when lathered, gives off the most invigorating aroma of lemon and neroli, leaving a zingy trail behind him in the bathroom.

To pass the time, Michael loves nothing more than to tend to his garden, much to Mrs Staid's delight. The year 1959 has thus far proved a sunny one, and, with spring underway, the Staid garden is now in full bloom. On one side of the garden lies a delightful array of roses, and not too far from them, pink carnations – a flower that reminds Michael distinctly of his late mother. Together with the lavender on the opposite end of the lawn, the three combine in a sort of floral melody, giving the Staid household a distinctly powdery smell.

While cautious to a tee, Michael enjoys a cigarette just as much as the next man, but restricts his smoking to just three fags a day: one in the morning, one in the afternoon and another in the evening. The note of tobacco lends Michael’s character a certain smoky sophistication, providing a playful contrast to some of his more stuffy qualities.

In the company of close friends and acquaintances, Michael is polite and endearing. He neither speaks out of turn, nor gets riled up to the point of exploding – a trait that Mrs Staid admires in him. To heated situations, Michael brings calm and patience; a fresh perspective as it were. Whether formal or casual occasions, he fits in just the same without bringing too much attention to himself.

He may not be the loudest man in the room, but he’s certainly not the meekest. Such is the steady individual they call Mr Staid.
